Articulated Tractor Units

An articulated lorry is a Vehicle weighing 7.5 tonnes or more with detachable cabs and trailers which can generally carry loads of up to 44 tonnes. Class 1 are able to do long-haul and short-haul trips, The term used is Class 1 HGV/LGV with a C+E Catorgory driving code.

Rigid Trucks

Rigid vehicles are those with a fixed Cab to Chassis and weigh over 7.5 but with a Maximum weight limit up to 32 tonne. These tend to be used for locations that are unsuitable for HGV class 1 Articulated lorries and normally used for making local and domestic UK short haul deliveries.

7.5 Ton Vehicles

As their name suggests, 7.5t lorries have a MAM of 7,500kg. This class of vehicle really includes all goods vehicles (vans and lorries) with a MAM (maximum laden weight) of between 3,500kg and 7,500kg. Depending upon when you passed your driving test some people have this category on their driving licence without the need for doing an additional test. They are used for express and dedicated loads throughout the UK and Europe as well as pre arranged transportation.
